Prof. Erduran delivered a thought-provoking keynote speech on how artificial intelligence is reshaping scientific knowledge and education. In the scope of her visit, Prof. Erudran met with faculty, researchers and administrative staff for wide-ranging discussions on the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and science education.

Foundations Development Directorate welcomed Prof. Dr. Sibel Erduran from the University of Oxford to the Core Curriculum Keynote event. The event brought students, faculty, university staff and guests for a compelling discussion on the future of science education.

Prof. Erduran delivered a speech titled “How Artificial Intelligence is Impacting the Nature of Science: Time to Redefine Science in Education?”.  In her talk, she explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on scientific practices and the ways in which these changes call for a re-examination of how science is taught and understood. Drawing on recent research, she emphasized the need to reconsider traditional notions and methods of scientific reasoning, evidence and inquiry in light of AI technologies.

Following the keynote, Prof. Erduran engaged in a panel discussion with the Foundations Development Director Dr. Emre Erol, Dr. Duygu Karaoğlan Altop and Prof. Dr. Gürol Irzık. The panelists offered their reflections on the implications of AI for science, ethics, and learning environments; encouraging an interdisciplinary dialogue with the audience.

Her visit included focused meetings with the Sabancı University AI Taskforce, a university-wide initiative working on the development of a comprehensive AI ethics framework, and with the NS faculty of Foundations Development Program to discuss innovation and interdisciplinary teaching strategies in light of technological transformations. She also engaged with various university shareholders, offering valuable insights on AI use in education and research.

Prof. Erduran’s visit marked an important step in fostering collaborative dialogue at the intersection of science, education and technology and opened pathways for future collaboration.
